It all boils down to one thing– Bold, beautiful branding. And no, I’m not talking about just a memorable logo. Branding is the pulse of your business. It’s what brings life to every channel you’re on, every platform you post to and everything you put out into this world. Your branding is what let’s people know that you get them, you know your stuff and that they’d be crazy not to follow you.

With so many things to do when you’re starting a business, branding often falls to the wayside, becoming an afterthought or something to do when there’s more money to go around. Your branding is the most vital part of building your business.  Scratch what you may have heard– your image DOES matter. We live in a social media, scroll-by-the-second society. If you don’t have a scroll-stopping, attention-grabbing, “stop what you’re doing and pay attention to this!” image, you’re costing your business valuable connections, opportunities and money. If you want to attract the right kind of clients and customers to your business, you need to give them a reason to pay attention to you.

That’s where a strong brand strategy becomes your new business BFF.

So what IS branding?

Your branding is part visual elements, part psychology, part marketing, with a dash of magic.

Visual Element

Your visual elements, including your color palette, typography, photos and graphics, help build brand recognition when consistently used across all media your audience comes in contact with. These elements are meant to strategically carry the core values and message of your business.

Who you serve

It’s a common thing to go with the ol’ “I’m targeting males and females, age 0-135 years of age, living anywhere in the world” when you’re first starting out.  After all, you don’t want to exclude anyone who may be willing to work with you, right?  WRONG!  When you try to speak to everyone, you end up being too watered down and as a result end up speaking to no one.  Figuring out exactly who you want to work with, right down to where they live, the type of people they hang out with, and even the guilty-pleasure songs they have on their Spotify road-trip playlists, allows you to get to know your audience inside and out so you have a clear guide on how to attract them into your tribe.

Communication Style

Your communication style– the words you use and your tone of voice– give your brand a distinctive personality.  How you speak to your audience, your team and pretty much everyone and their sister says a lot about your brand and your values. Just like you have a particular way you communicate with your besties, your colleagues, and loved ones that is 100% YOU, your brand will have it’s own particular unique style as well.

Emotions & Actions

A huge part in connecting with your audience includes stirring up certain emotions and motivating your followers to take action.  You want to build a common interest with them to position yourself as someone they should know, like and trust which in turn will lead them to feeling comfortable doing business with you.  Taking your audience on your journey and showing that you have been in their shoes and truly understand where they’ve been and where they’re going helps build a strong relationship with your tribe.

Your Personality & Uniqueness 

No matter what industry you’re in, you’re going to encounter loads of people who are doing the same thing as you. This is where your quirks can actually come to bat for you and showcase what makes you unique. No one wants to follow someone who is so perfect that it makes them feel like that person is totally not approachable and is living a life that is completely unattainable.  Again, the human factor is BIG.  People want to see the real you, warts and all.  In today’s world, business owners are being driven to being as authentic as possible. With social media playing such a big part in building your business, it’s crucial to weave your personality into your business as much as humanly possible. People don’t buy products. They buy solutions and results and the human being behind the curtain of it all.

Whoa.  So that can seem like a hella hard list to tackle, right?  I get that.

That’s why I do what I do.
